Amelia Island New Home
Our new home at Amelia Island has the most breathtaking views of the marsh. The house was laid out to allow for each room to have their own special views. An existing house was on this beautiful site; however, it did not take advantage of the wonderful site and the views of the marsh.
The development of the house was very tricky to with the allowable setbacks to the marsh. This really helped us think “outside the box” in terms of the layout of the house. We worked very closely with landscape architect Carson McElheney in developing the floor plan for the house. The results were fabulous as all rooms in the house ended up getting breathtaking views of the marsh.
Our wonderful clients wanted a relaxed, but beautiful classic details with nice textures.
The treillage gallery to the owner’s bedroom and it really made for such a delightful space to come and go each day. This space has stunning views to the marsh. One of our favorite rooms, was the owner’s bedroom which is surrounded by breathtaking views of the marsh.
Something we really like, at Spitzmiller & Norris, is for the staircase to be set aside and have a hidden element of surprise and makes for a wonderful entrance from the Foyer to the Dining Room. The staircase turned out to be a real hidden gem. Off the Foyer is a welcoming warm stained wood study lined with bookcases and beams to created more beautiful layers of textures in the room.
The living room was such a fun space to develop with the most incredible views of the marsh and filled with natural light along with a beautiful, vaulted wood ceiling with limewashed wood beams to create interest along with a more traditional fireplace. The mirrored over mantel piece was inspired by a fireplace in Drayton Hall in South Carolina. Spitzmiller & Norris teamed up with Will Huff of Huff-Dewberry for the interiors.
The kitchen is another delightful space with front to back views of the marsh. Mirrored China cabinets flank each side of the opening to the Living Room, making for nice delineation of spaces. The mirrored cabinets really allow for a nice reflection of light in the kitchen. The banquette projects out and has windows wrapping around the banquette – making for a very cheerful kitchen. The homeowners wanted two islands to allow for a prep area and then for an area to eat and work at a laptop on the second island.
The outdoor spaces were very important to the homeowners for entertaining with family and so an outdoor kitchen was designed near the pool area – along with a screened in porch. The outdoor kitchen also has a pass through to allow for outdoor dining from the grill area.
A wonderful courtyard was developed at the front entrance façade of the home to create a warm and welcoming feel upon entering the house. The front doors have a nice nod to French Provincial homes with a beautiful blue entry door, which is quite complimentary to the setting and the interior color palettes.
