This wonderful Colonial Revival stone and shingle house was designed for very large family and a passion for entertainment, so there was much to consider when designing this wonderful home.
A house for a newly married couple in an established historic neighborhood of Greenville, SC. Our initial charge was to help them create a mutual design vocabulary and a home that looked as it had always been part of the property.

In search of cohesion, a Buckhead home undergoes renovation. This 1920s home had seen many style changes among the switching of owners, leaving its most current state in a clash of contemporary interiors and Italianate-inspired architecture on the exterior. Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles Magazine as one of the “20 most Beautiful homes”. Stately and beautifully situated on a rising lawn set well back from the street, this classical revival house was built in the early 1930’s. Our program was to reintegrate house & gardens in terms of circulation, access & lines of sight. Featured Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles “Jewel Box Beauty” At the time it came into the hands of its new owners, the rich Colonial Revival Style exterior had survived relatively intact, but the interiors had suffered many & varied insensitive renovations. Based on our experience, after discovering the extent of the issues the condition of the house exhibited, most new owners would have opted to raze the house & build anew. This Garden Hills Craftsman Cottage was designed for a 50-foot-wide lot for some wonderful past clients. Some beautiful details throughout the house. Featured in Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles. Interiors by C. Weaks Interiors.
This “cottage” is really quite spacious and has been featured in House Beautiful Magazine “ The Power of Restraint” & the book by Rizzoli publishers, Suzanne Kasler Inspired Interiors. In addition to a fully covered central porch overlooking the rear garden it has a stone terrace off the dining room. The family enjoys the dine-in French Country kitchen with its fireplace, and the lower level with wine cellar, recreation room with fireplace &access, via a bank of French doors.

An escape to the beach means for most people being able to live in a way completely and gloriously different from the way in which they live day to day. Our classically simple beach house is a study in serenity. Porches & balconies wrap the house extending the living area into the walled garden or offering views to the shore and & to the sea’s horizon beyond.
As featured in Veranda Magazine “Grandeur Restored” &“Pedigree of Place” One of Atlanta’s most beloved residential landmarks, the house was designed in 1936 for the Nunnally family. Unfortunately after working on a year-long renovation in 2000, a fire damaged the house disastrously. We are proud recipients’ of The Institute of Classical Architecture & Classical America’s 2009 Philip Trammell Shutze Award Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation. Interiors by Carole Weaks.
The dignified Regency villa had determinedly presided over its two-lot site for nearly eighty years. Following the death of the original owner just a several years ago, developers began eying the property for development. Happily, new owners who appreciated the importance of the house and its property to the neighborhood appeared & began a three year process of planning & executing restorations & careful additions to the house and grounds. Spitzmiller and Norris, Inc. is a residential design firm specializing in the custom design of personal residences. We have maintained our office in Atlanta since 1985 and are experienced in designing plans for the construction of new houses, the remodeling of existing houses and the proper restoration of historic houses in a green and eco-friendly manner. High-rise interior designs are a new request for us and we are adding this rewarding lifestyle environment to our repertoire. We work throughout the South on a diverse array of projects from our recently completed 18 plus year design collaboration with Blackberry Farm in Walland, Tennessee, to designing second homes in North Carolina’s mountains and Florida’s Gulf Coast. We are particularly proud of receiving five Excellence in Preservation Awards from the Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation, five time winners of The Institute of Classical Architecture & Art 2009, 2010 , 2011, 2013 and 2019 Philip Trammell Shutze Award as well as accolades from Southern Living and Southern Accents.
